Evolution of the Madonna Inn Goblet

Madonna Inn goblets are kind-of a big deal. Not only are they a staple in our restaurants and shops, but also in the hearts (and cupboards) of so many guests who treasure them for their timeless beauty and charm. In the beginning, however, the water and wine at Madonna Inn flowed from a different chalice.

In the Inn’s early years, the tables were set with a more generic style of glass tumbler - much like the ones from this vintage Viking catalog.

It wasn’t until the mid-1970s that Mr. and Mrs. Madonna found a “Flat Rose” design from the LG Wright Glass Company which complimented the Inn’s whimsical interior design. A little over a decade later, Mr. Madonna decided to commission a custom-designed goblet that would better match the now-signature rose carpeting. (Fun fact: the carpets were designed by a former Disney artist!)

The molds used to make these new and improved Madonna Inn goblets were later trademarked and used exclusively for Madonna Inn; the mold aptly-named the “Madonna Rose,” with a thicker and smoother finish that its earlier counterpart.

Today, our goblets are made by Mosser Glass: a family owned and operated company out of Cambridge, Ohio. We enjoy knowing that their family takes just as much pride in the creation of these goblets as we do, and look forward to many more years of partnership.
